Sufferings
Thesis    2024

Sufferings is a package series each titled ‘birth’, ‘aging’, ‘sickness’, and ‘death’, representing the four human sufferings according to Buddhism. This project aims to explore beyond conventional Korean design methods. I applied the concept in traditional Korean landscape painting, which identifies nature as an extension of the human body. Additionally, this project incorporates Catholicism to broaden the interpretation of Korean culture beyond Buddhism or shamanism. I discovered a parallel between Korean aesthetics and the sacrament of the Eucharist, as both require us to understand self-fulfillment as the attainment of selflessness.
